My
name is Dick Gove and I am the owner of Port Republic Decoys, which
is located in the heart of South Jersey decoy country, where I grew
up appreciating the whole outdoor concept. I have been an admirer of
New Jersey decoys going back to my time as a duck hunter with my dad on Barnegat
Bay and a collector starting in the late 1960's, continuing up until
present day. As is the case with most collectors, I accumulated too
much for my shelves and I found that I had to sell or trade decoys to
make room for more & hence Port Republic Decoys was formed. You will find examples of HV Shourds, Rollie Horner, Ward Brothers,Jack Updike,Hurley Conklin, Bill Cranmer,Ira Hudson, John English,John Blair, plus New England, Maryland,Long Island and New York and Canadian Decoys. I also have a large inventory of Oyster tins and memorabilia plus fishing goodies and pond boats and antiques and architectural pieces and painted furniture. My shop is within 2 hours of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and would be worth a ride to the Jersey shore to see the contents.
I am a member of the New Jersey Decoy Collectors Association, The Tuckerton
Seaport, Potomac Decoy Collectors, East Coast Decoy Association, and
the Mid-West Decoy Association. I have set up decoy displays in the
Noyes Museum (Oceanville, NJ), Burlington Historical Museum (Burlington,
NJ) and the Baymens Museum (Tuckerton, NJ) not only to show off the
decoys, but also to give some historical background on the carvers,
hunters, and the geographical area which they used for their profession.
All my wares have a total satisfaction guarantee and are shipped professionally
boxed and packed. I buy single decoys, whole collections, take trades
and also consignments with complete discretion. I will appraise single
ducks and whole collections and bid in any major auction with complete
discretion. Please feel free to email me or catch up with me at any
show or auction with any questions or just plain storytelling.I will be updating my website on a more regular basis now with new decoys and wares so please click in from time to time.
Port Republic Decoys has acquired many new decoys, shorebirds, folk art and oyster and paper ephemera and during the winter months the shop will be readily available upon phone request. I guarantee you haven't seen anything like this around, its great. I have a very loose schedule so I can accomdate anyone who
wishes to stop around. I am about one hour from Philadelphia, 2 hours from Baltimore and 1 an1/2 hours from New York with easy acess from the GSP and AC Expressway.
Many new signs will listed as well as new decoys, oyster tins and related gear in the next few weeks keep coming back.

One of the most useful books I have run across is this alphabetized index of all carvers that are listed in the books by state or Province and as a whole in alphabetical order. The birth and death dates are listed, where they are from, time of their carving and which books you can find them in. If you are doing research for an article or just looking for fun it will prove to be an excellent purchase. It can no longer be bought from the printer (out of print) I ran across a batch and bought them. I have been using it for years the only problem is it does not include some of the brand new books written since then but you can add to the index as you go.
